We say a fond farewell to Jo Ollerenshaw who has left SF Otago to pursue her passion for gardening and wedding facilitation. Jo was with SF for over 3 years, dedicated to providing very valuable support to the families and organisation. We will miss her and wish her much success in her new ventures.
Welcome to new Fieldwork Team Leader Maria Hamelink . Maria comes to us having just completed her Bachelor of Occupational Therapy at Otago Polytechnic. She is passionate about enabling people to maintain a healthy balanced life and we are excited to have her on board to share her knowledge and skills with the SF Otago families
We are very happy to introduce Fiona Panirau to the fieldwork team, she has a wealth of experience working in Mental Health and in particular she was a family member of SF Otago 9 years ago. Since then she has worked as a Team Leader for the 420 Activity Centre (which is funded for Mental Health Consumers - run by the PACT group). Fiona has been working towards completing her Diploma in Counseling and during this time she was working for the ODHB in one of their wards working with Mental Health and Intellectual Disability consumers. She is looking forward to working with the families in her role as a fieldworker.

Family/Whanau Network Meeting
Thursday, June 10, 2010
1:30-3:30pm
Venue: Centennial Court Motor Inn, 96 Centennial Court, Alexandra
Purpose of this Meeting: To provide a safe environment for Family/Whanau members to feel confident to express their views and empower one another in advocating for a better quality of life for their Family/Whanau as a whole in mental health. All families and family representatives in Otago are welcome to attend.
Background: This meeting is part of a series of meetings facilitated by Supporting Families Otago as part of their contract with the Southern District Health Board. The Family/whanau Network meetings rotate to different locations in Otago to capture regional information from families to report to the District Health Board.
As this meeting is a family-led initiative, the agenda will be formulated at the meeting. Topics should include: what is working well in mental health for families in Otago and what issues need to be reported back to the Southern District Health Board and the Ministry of Health. All families and family representatives from the greater Otago Region are welcome to attend.
Please RSVP for catering purposes by 1 June by ringing 03 448 9303 or email: office@sfcentral.org.nz.
On Tuesday the 4th of May the second Otago Regional Family Whanau Network meeting was held at SF Otago. There was a great turnout for the meeting and much was achieved. We were happy to see the families taking an active role in discussing there thoughts and feelings on the support that their loved ones receive.
The next meeting will be held in Alexandra on Thursday the 10th of June (time and venue to be confirmed). SF Otago will be taking a couple of vehicles away and we will be happy to transport family to this event.
As an exciting special we at SF Otago are delighted to offer this promotional pack.
